Whats the best shampoo to use on long haired dogs with skin allergies?

I have a Shih Tzu. and she has skin allergies. every shampoo that I've tried so far make her schrach worse. Dose anyone know what the best dog shampoo is for her that will not cause her to schratch?

Whats the best shampoo to use on long haired dogs with skin allergies?
Johnson's Baby shampoo.

Very mild and nonallergenic.

Yes, I know it's not a "pet" shampoo. But it still works!! Soap is soap!
Reply:try pantene, that's what i use and i have long black hair
Reply:JOHNSONS NO TEAR BABY SHAMPOO I USE IT ON THREE DIFFERENT BREEDS
Reply:oatmeal shampoo with baking soda........name:

Fresh n' Clean...u can buy it at Petco
Reply:Pure Castile soap is best, or you can use human's Neutrogena with a vinegar rinse..3 Tablespoons vinegar to a gallon or water in the final rinse.

If you use ANY human shampoo, follow it with the vinegar rinse to make the PH balance better for the dog's skin....Otherwise your dog is likely to develop doggy odor. from producimg excess sebum, and bacteria growing in the sebum.
Reply:You should not shampoo your dog more than every 6 weeks. This drys out their skin which would look like an allergy.

You can purchase omega 6 pills for dogs to help with their skin and coats. You can also purchase sensitive skin shampoo from a groomer or local pet store.
Reply:I had a shitzu and my doctor was homeopathic, I had this lemon shampoo and it was the best! I don't remember the name but it was lemonie. Oh yea, he made the shampoo himself. put some herbs in it and reg dog shampoo and this lemon stuff which was great.
Reply:I suggest you use VCO or virgin coconut oil on her skin few hours before her bath. This thing works wonders. My miniature schnauzer had some skin allergies too last summer and a friend suggested using VCO.
Reply:Use a shampoo without Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, add baking soda while shampooing, and add some to the rinsing. The baking soda works great!!! You will notice a difference! Switch to Natures Recipe Venison/Rice formula food! Chemical, pesticide, and artificial ingredient free! The other commercial varieties use diseased animal parts, and corn, wheat, feathers, hooves, and allergic fillers in their processing. Our furry friends deserve more than that! Check out the harmful effects of sodium lauryl sulfate! I wouldn't use any shampoo with this ingredient on myself, yet alone my precious pets! PLEASE READ !!!

I sure hope this helps!!!!!
Reply:try baby shampoo
Reply:Shampoo will not help with the allergies.

Having said that, there are soap free shampoos out there. HYLYT is one. You can order it from valleyvet.com for around $8 or you can get it from your vet for $20.

I use LYTAR on my dog. It is a coal tar shampoo. Not the best smelling thing out there, but works for my dog. My vet had never even heard of it. I bathe her once every 3 or 4 weeks, unless she wallows in something nasty.

Have you identified the source of the allergen? The best thing would be to find out what your dog is allergic to, and remove that from contact with her.
Reply:I would try "NIOXIN" cleanser and scalp therapy from a salon. Costs a bit but makes my head feel wonderful. You could use it when he is better.
Reply:Baby shampoo with conditioner. The tearless formulas are best. Also, stay away from any soothing nighttime shampoos as they may heighten or cause more allergic reactions.
