Could this be dog skin allergies?

I've never owned a dog that had allergies, and I'm not for sure if this is what she has. I started noticing a few days ago that my Chi. looked like she was losing hair on her paws, I've been trying to research skin allergies in dogs, I found a few sites, but I'd like to see some pictures of what it looks like... I have some pictures of paws, but before anyone comments on her toenails, I know they are long, she goes tomorrow to get them cut, because I'm scared to do it myself I don't want to hurt her.

It definately looks like it could be an allergy. I would talk to your vet about it. It might be she is allergic to something seasonal and some benedryl could help her out. She might also have food allergies, too, so thats something you could experiment with by feeding her a food that uses a different protein source.

Here's some info about food allergies: http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?...

If it doesn't seem to be food allergies, your vet can do allergy testing to determine what specifically she is allergic to.
Reply:Sure looks like it. Has she been licking/chewing her paws?
Reply:yes that does look like an allergy. she is probably allergic to something in her food (that is usually the cause). try to switch to a "lamb and rice" dog food formula.
Reply:My poor dog got fleas this past summer and she showed signs of an allergic reaction to the flea bites and it looked pretty much like your dog's pics. Besides washing her and keeping her sprayed to keep the fleas away, we gave her benadryl to help slow down the allergic reaction and switched to a prescription shampoo and steroid spray from the Vet. It's taken a while but her paws and fanny are looking pretty and furry again!
Reply:She may have a grass allergy. It is not uncommon in dogs, particularly white skinned dogs. When she walks on the grass her feet itch, so she exacerbates the problem by licking her feet. First, you should take her to your Vet and have him or her diagnose the problem. If it is a grass allergy, you might consider putting booties or doggie shoes on her feet every time she goes out of doors.
