It sounds like a serious flea problem to me.

Allergies would not cause that much redness.
Reply:well you might needed to get the cat something like fleas and tick medicans from the store that use for cats . its will help the cat not to itch much and will also help control the ticks and fleas not coming back .well alot of animals have all kind of allergiers acting problem . you should take care of it by takening the cat to the check up from the vet or go buy youre cat a advantage treatment fleas care from the store .
Reply:I suggest that you get a flea comb and comb his fur. If you see little bugs, they are fleas. If you all you get is little specks, put some of them on a paper towel and dampen it. If the towel develops red spots around the specks, that means the specks are dried blood, an indication that your cats has fleas. If it turns out to be fleas, I suggest Biospot treatment, either the tube dose or the spray. Either way, it's a lot cheaper than Advantage, and each dose lasts three months instead of one month. This works on most of my cats; only the black one needs the Advantage, because, for some strange reason, the Biospot doesn't work on her. %26lt;sigh%26gt;:
Reply:could be a food allergy as well. i suggest taking him to see the vet. he may need an RX to fix this issue, and if it's red that could mean he's very uncomfortable.
Reply:Can be a series of things, the cat can actual have a allergy to fleas!!! Poor kitty. Its known to happen that the fleas bite and then the cat gets an allergy to the fleas. Since skin conditions are difficult to determine in cats, you need to take the cat to a vet and have him examined. Its the only way for sure to know. If the cat has open sores and red or irritated skin, bathing the cat in flea soap is going to really really sting and hurt the animals especially if its NOT fleas and just a skin condition. Putting your cat through un-needed trauma. Get a vets opinion first then go from there. He could just have a minor problem with his diet, and needs a diffrent cat food.
Reply:More then likely a flea problem, he could be sensitive or alergic to flea bites.

Just pick a tube of advantage and follow the directions.

As far as you no brainers, this is the reason I have not come back to pets in yahoo answers, If you can't give a decent answer don't answer at all.
