Can I give my Shih Tzu omega-3 supplements for severe skin allergies?

I am looking for a more natural remedy to my dog's skin allergies. Right now she is taking steroids due to a recent flare-up. I am trying to find a way to prevent the flare-ups with something natural that I can do daily. Any suggestions?

Reply:The Omega-3's should work just fine. Dogs eat fish naturally, so it shouldn't be a problem, and the oil wouldn't cause any negative reactions. Also, be sure the change your dog's brush, bedding, collar, shampoo, etc. Many times dogs have higer reactions to allergens that affect humans than humans even do. That's why it's always important to never use your own shampoo or conditioner on your dog's hide. Human Shampoo isn't really even good for human hair, because it strips it, which is why we have ot use conditioners, it's a vicious cycle ... the detergents in the shampoo will forcefully strip the natural oils that protect the dog's hide and will therefore make the hide much more susceptible to allergens that get caught under the coat. So use a soap that is less harsh, that won't strip the oils. I suggest using a baby soap, they have no detergents and are virtually allergen-free. Or try http://www.botanicaldog.com/ for more ideas, they are a reputable company with really good products. Oh, and don't forget to take out all your dog's collars, bedding, brushes, etc. The allergen may still be on them, so wash them well. Throw the brush and collar away and just get new ones since the hairs are caught in the bristles and fibers.
Reply:I don't know about the pills, but you could probably get away with feeding your dog fish.
Reply:You can use Liquid Zeolite. Want to know more, you can email me at mai_fol@yahoo.com.sg because I don't mean to advertise here.
