Is there a link between having braces and depression?

I have had braces for almost six years. I have also had clinical depression for almost six years. Coincidence? Maybe, maybe not. It was only a matter of a couple of weeks after I got the braces that I noticed something was wrong. I never really put all that much thought into it. That is until I started reading about some of the side effects of braces. Since I got braces I developed an allergy to metal in that if anything metal touches my skin it causes a rash and I read reports on the internet that it is common that braces can cause you to develop this problem. So along with these physical problems is it possible that they can cause emotional problems as well? I read about a girl that killed herself and she just happened to have braces. I guess I will know when I get my braces off in a couple of months. At this point I am hoping that this was the cause all along in that I could finally get some relief. I just want to know if anyone else who has braces has noticed depression?

I have had braces but i never exsperienced depression, but the reason you might be is because your having anxiety about the rashes from the braces and how they may make you look but after you get them off you will have a beautiful smile and your teeth will be completely straight. Don't fret it will be over soon. Hope this helped and good luck!!!
Reply:My advice is to calm down, and talk to your doctor. I think you're jumping to conclusions about the whole braces/ depression thing, but the human brain is a truly weird thingy. Also, does fine metal (like gold, or silver) give you a rash? Allergies to common metals is, well, common. Wish you well!
Reply:Braces do not cause depression. No such thing.
