Is there a link between having braces and depression?

I have had braces for almost six years. I have also had clinical depression for almost six years. Coincidence? Maybe, maybe not. It was only a matter of a couple of weeks after I got the braces that I noticed something was wrong. I never really put all that much thought into it. That is until I started reading about some of the side effects of braces. Since I got braces I developed an allergy to metal in that if anything metal touches my skin it causes a rash and I read reports on the internet that it is common that braces can cause you to develop this problem. So along with these physical problems is it possible that they can cause emotional problems as well? I read about a girl that killed herself and she just happened to have braces. I guess I will know when I get my braces off in a couple of months. At this point I am hoping that this was the cause all along in that I could finally get some relief. I just want to know if anyone else who has braces has noticed depression?

Is there a link between having braces and depression?
I have had braces but i never exsperienced depression, but the reason you might be is because your having anxiety about the rashes from the braces and how they may make you look but after you get them off you will have a beautiful smile and your teeth will be completely straight. Don't fret it will be over soon. Hope this helped and good luck!!!
Reply:My advice is to calm down, and talk to your doctor. I think you're jumping to conclusions about the whole braces/ depression thing, but the human brain is a truly weird thingy. Also, does fine metal (like gold, or silver) give you a rash? Allergies to common metals is, well, common. Wish you well!
Reply:Braces do not cause depression. No such thing.

Banana allergy? read on?

does anyone else out there have a banana allergy because i do and have had all my life i was just wondering if it was rare or common as i havent met anyone else with this allergy i don't even no why i'm allergic to them even the skins give me a rash and the other year i drank a drink without realising it had banana in and ended up in hospital i swell up and my breathing is effected and i also get a blistery rash all over my body

Banana allergy? read on?
Allergy to bananas is less common than peanut intolerance but simply because some people do not eat the fruit so they are not aware that they have it. Some persons have extremely severe reactions and, like you, have to be rushed to hospital with anaphilactic shock and the same symptoms as you had. Sadly this kind of intolerance stays with you for life and you have to watch the contents of processed food or ethnic dishes that may contain bananas. The good news is that it is not a common ingredient. It is generally a food easy to avoid and that people will not miss.
Reply:Two months ago, I noted that my mouth burned after eating a banana. It got slightly worse the next two times. Two days ago, I ate a banana. In 15 min, my lips swelled. I developed a headache, severe redness/swelling of the face and neck, %26amp; hives. I was surprised because I have always eaten bananas. Report It

Reply:I had a banana and within 1 hour I was puking and had severe diaherra Report It

Reply:my sister-in-laws new partner has an allergy to bananas, he gets the same symptoms as you described if he goes near a banana or tastes banana
Reply:Yep have relatives that are allegic.
Reply:Yes, I'm allergic to bananas, too, but my reaction isn't as severe as yours. All that happens is that, if I eat one, my lips swell up. I have avoided the things since childhood and, for all I know, the allergy might have gone. It doesn't matter, though, because I don't like the taste of them anyway.
Reply:My son is allergic to banana's but what it does to him , is make him hyper.. He can climb walls after eating one bite... Odd we know..
Reply:Never knew this allergy existed! Well, I guess you're not alone in this allergy! No banana split for you! I've only heard of elderly people wanting to avoid bananas because they make their bones hurt. Ever heard of that one? My Mom swears by it.

Every piercing I get gets infected.?

Five years ago I started getting body piercings, and I never had one get infected but decided to just keep my eyebrow and navel and took the rest out. Then, Three years ago, I couldnt put cheap earrings in my ears, only 14k gold, but I took my piercings out because of a job. Last year I got my tongue pierced and it never UN SWELLED for three months it stayed swollen, so i took it out. I got it repierced and had the same issue but never had an issue with infection. Got my monroe/madonna pierced FOUR times because the same thing kept happeneing and it would get infected. Finally decided to get my eyebrow pierced again a few months ago, and it instantly became infected. When i wear cheap jewelery my skin breaks out, so I am wondering if I have an allergy to something, or if im just NOT meant to have piercings anymore. ALSO, if i am allergic, is there a type of jewelery I can use when getting pierced? Can you develop an allergy to piercing jewelery over time?

Every piercing I get gets infected.?
You can develope allergies over time, but most people (there are rare instances though) are not allergic to surgical or implant grade stainless steel or titanium which should be the only metals the jewlery is made of that your piercer is using. Anything else is substandard.

Hate to tell you though, some people just aren't meant to have piercings. Regardless as to how the piercing is done, how it is cared for, or what is changed each time it is redone in an effort to keep the piercing, some people's body will never adjust to it and allow it to heal. Having an infection every single time can be in indicator, rejection every single time is another indicator, and irritation to the piercing that never goes away is another indicator. All of these things indicate your body's lack of willingness to heal the piercing and allow it to remain. Sadly, you may be one of those people.
Reply:You are likely allergic to nickel, so you can buy nickel free jewelry. But you may want to look into other things with your doc, could be an immune system thing, possibly caused by one of your piercers using dirty tools. And yeah, you can get an acquired allergy to anything at any time.
Reply:try using surgical steel and clean them with saline and not alcohol. and the tongue all i have did is use antiseptic mouthwash diluted down and glyoxide and then brushing my tongue with toothpaste. i have not had any problems yet.
Reply:You may want to try titanium or niobium, but keep in mind that some people's bodys do not like piercings, and yours sounds like one of them.
Reply:It could just be that your body is rejecting the piercings. It's not that uncommon.

Allergic to pants buttons?

I've been receiving allergy shots for 4 years now. Being the redhead with pale skin stereotype, of course I'm allergic to certain metals, scented lotions...yeah, you know the story.

The allergy shots have lessened my allergic reactions to metals, but recently an allergic reaction occured to the button on my pants.

So, I do what my dermatologist told me to do so man years ago. I paint the button with clear nailpolish and I use a great hydrocortisone cream hoping that would clear it up in a few days. However, it has not.

I've painted the button in every pair of pants I own, the hydrocortisone cream only goes so far. I wear a bandaid to block the button from coming in contact with my skin. Of course, the band-aid falls off within a few hours because of constant motion and the friction of rubbing against my pants. I use ice to reduce swelling as well.

Until I can get enough money to go to the allergist, does anyone have any good home remedies that I haven't mentioned here?

Allergic to pants buttons?
Clear nail polish was my first suggestion -- have you re-applied it recently? The thin coat will wear off against your skin, the bandaid, other clothing and in the wash.

Tucking in a shirt or wearing 'bigger' underwear to cover the spot while you heal is a good idea, too. (Which is first, fashion or health?) The bandaid may be adding irritation, too -- the adhesive being pulled and rubbed off each day might be the source of the problem, and not the button itself.

You've probably developed some resistance to the cream, too, if you've been using it for years. Switch to benedryl (a different kind of allergy medicine) and see if that makes a difference.

So - change cream, ditch the band-aids, repaint the buttons, and wear clothing that protects the spot while you heal. Sorry, this probably means 'grandma panties' for a few days, but you'll survive.
Reply:get an old t-shirt, cut out a square and sew it over top of the inside button spot. That will keep it from contacting your skin and hopefully heal up. or wear a skirt that just pulls on. or has a plastic zipper. (i suppose you could wear track pants or something when tidiness is not an issue too. Liek around the house.
Reply:Allergies meds... alavert.... um benadryl or something lol
Reply:Instead of nail polish, you could try paint on the back side of the button. Be sure to coat it thoroughly. Make sure your pants are not too snug. You can look for pants that do not have metal buttons or that close with a wide hook and clasp (if you are female this is not an uncommon style of closure for slacks) then you won't have anything coming in contact with your skin. You could also try sewing patches on the backs of the buttons so that the metal is covered with a scrap of fabric.
Reply:Wow, and I thought my mother's allergies were bad. Bless your heart.

I wish I knew of some remedies for the allergies. That really would be preferable. Until then, try this.

Can you get the buttons off? Even if they're not sewn on, they can be removed sometimes. The fabric underneath can be stitched closed, and a plastic button put in its place. I've done that before when I had that kind of button break off. If you need help, contact a place that does alterations. They may be able to help you change the buttons.

Good luck to you. I hope you find a solution that works for you.
Reply:Hello

I have the same problem. I feel your pain, my skins breaking out too, because I bought a new belt, and forgot to protect my skin from it.

Your right;the creams only go so far, and the polish so long.

What I did with mine was the first suggestion. Take an old shirt and cut it to cover it. I also started to look for pants with plaistic buttens instead of metel...They are out there I swear! :) I also tried a higher strength "polish" for it. Sometimes you can find a high stick polish to apply.

The best thing you can do is try all of these things and see which works the best for you. Good Luck! I have found that trying a new cream will help loads! I have the highest perscription you can get, but it stopped working!

Hey please help i think hypothermia?

hey u guys first off dont laugh please...but i had this stain on my pant and i used a dust can to wipe it off, it worked sort of unfortunately the dust can made my skin cold, i read the label and it said it can lead to frostbite, now i have an area od my skin, pinkish and sort of bumpy,,(it looks like when the allergy tests give u bumps) what is this and how can i get rid of it, and it can feel my skin (i needled it)so i think i have full nerve function. please help, will it go away?

Hey please help i think hypothermia?
It could have been a little frostbitten. Don't rub or poke at it, and DO NOT put it in cold water, that's an old wive's tale. A little skin might get dry and slough off. It should go away but if it doesn't, get a doctor to look at it.

Rash from Birth Control...should I stop?

I really love this Nuva-Ring, I have been on it for three weeks. But now I am starting to get rashes on my neck and legs. Really sucks. Can I assume that it will continue and get worse? The patch made my skin break out in itchy patches. The ring is causing allergy-type rashes. They don't itch, they kinda burn...

Rash from Birth Control...should I stop?
I say, make the guy wear the proctection, not you.

Please help!! i'm really worried....?

On wednesday night I noticed a somewhat sore circular red-pinkish bump about 1 cm on the back of my right leg, in the fatty part. it looked just like a bug bite, but i kno it wasn't. It felt fatty too and in the center it looked like a small bit of the skin was removed, so i scratched it, and obviously more of the skin was removed. then over the next few days i got more of the similar bumps - one on by right butt cheek, one on the top of my left thigh, and one on the upper fatty part of the back of my left leg. I've noticed though that all of these bumps have only occured on the parts of my butt, legs, and thigh only where there is more fat. Would someone please tell me what this is or if they've had something similar? i'm very afraid of going to the doctor and would at least like to get an idea of what this is. i'm really freaking out and have been crying my eyes out!! I'm a 14 year old girl who has always been very healthy but has seasonal allergies.

Please help!! i'm really worried....?
It is possible that your describing "boils." See the link below, for pictures and description of boils
Reply:It could just be a reaction to something. It could be a bacterial infection. Either way...you should go to a doctor. These things arent serious, but could become serious if ignored. They will most likely give you something topical to put on it like a cream or ointment.

2. If they are on your thighs, there's a 99% chance that they are ingrown hairs. Get a tweezers pull the hair in the middle of the red bump and put a cool cloth on it to help the redness go down.

3. If its hot where you are its may also be heat rash.
Reply:i've kind of had symptoms like that, where they look like bug bites but i havent been around any bugs, so i was worried, but i found out it was foliculitis, which is just when your hair folicules get a little infected, like from shaving your legs, or tight clothing( jeans, or workout clothes), sweating etc. mine really itched too, so it sucked, but my md persrciped me some oral antibiotics, its really such a common thing, nothing weird or crazy. sometimes just making sure all your clothes are clean and washing ur sheets helps too, in the mean time you should also just wash your spots with dial antibacterial wash to help clean them. I would suggest asking your parents to take u to the md if they dont clear up with in a week or so, good luck!

What's your favorite way to get ready for a date?

I'm about go see my boyfriend in an hour, see him in two hours since it takes an hour to get there. I had put on makeup, because he likes to see me in makeup, bathe/shower with Dove body wash because how it makes my skin soft, put on some perfume (he can't smell it, though, due to his allergies), and put on some really special clothes on, be it glamorous, or sexy, or a combo of both. I usually don't dress casual around him, even though he would not mind if I did. I'll put on boots most the time with my skirts/dresses (rarely do I wear pants around him). I'm about to put on some nail polish, haven't done that in awhile. Tonight instead of boots I'm having on Mary Jane shoes. Then, make sure I have enough cash for just in case I pick up the dinner or date tabs (if we plan to do anything outside his house).

I'd like to get ready at a time where I can try to run early because never know what could come up, like traffic probs or what have yo

What's your favorite way to get ready for a date?
Just throw on jeans and a tshirt and go naturally out the door with no shoes, let it all be

Depending how hot the date, whether it's a new guy or one I have seen a few times, or where we are going on a date....then I know how to dress. For instance, i have a hot date with this guy this coming weekend (we're going out 2 nights in a row)...he owns a company drives a Beemer...so I will dress extra special cute for him and I bought 2 new outfits. I am also going to get my hair trimmed, manicure/pedicure, and facial this week. I really want to impress him.....plus since I get to pick where we are going it will be expensive so I HAVE to look exceptional.

Now last weekend I went out with a guy straight out of college (he's a couple years younger than me, but he's a QT) so I make more than him (still though I do not pay) so when I picked the place I made sure it was affordable to him. We went to my local Bar %26amp; Grill so I wore a cute pair of jeans and cute top....of course it was cut down low *wink wink*.

OH, and no matter what type of dude I'm going out with I always make sure I am freshly shaven EVERYWHERE....you never know *wink wink*
Reply:Take a bath. Turn on the music to something lively, sexy, and energetic because this keeps you moving. Drink a cup of herbal tea or a cooler to help you relaxed in the mist of preparation. Put on something sexy when you go see your boyfriend. Save the conservative clothes for when you go to meet his mother or to a classy play. Take some cash in case you have an argument and get left behind. That way you can pick yourself up, and not the tab. Bring condoms and don't expect the man to always have them. Wear any shoes or outfit that makes you feel confident, because confidence is key. Wear light make up and try earth tones and pastel colors since these spell feminine. Take your cell phone in case you're stuck in traffic. But, put it on vibrate or silence later in case your ex calls. Take a toothbrush, clean wash cloth, and underwear. You never know if you'll decide to stay over. Good luck, have fun dressing up, stay responsible and stay safe, and you will have the time of your life!
Reply:Just get hair and make-up done great and wear something pretty under jeans and a t, even if I'm not going to be doing anything. Funny, makes me feel special and that I have a secret that I'm not going to show, LOL

Please HELP!!!!?

I spent the other day staying out in the sun the whole day, I'm usually very white, the next day I stayed at the beach for around 2 hours and also swam in the water. As soon as I got out I had this huge red rash on my neck, chest, arms and later it appeared on my legs too. At first I didn't feel anything, but a few hours later it started itching and looked like a severe burn.

I put some on some gel and creams for allergies and burns just in case. When I woke up today it was gone, I decided to go to the pool and sit in the shade for a while, after 15 to 20 minutes my chest and neck started itching and became red. It's not like I was in the sun or something. I'm really worried if this is going to keep on happening, because my skin is very irritated, I took a shower and put on a t-shirt and it irritated my skin. Does anybody else have this? What is it? I'm going to wait a day or 2 before I see a doctor, but is this going to keep on happening when I go out in the sun?

Please HELP!!!!?
Yes, this will continue happening. You need to use a SUNSCREEN everytime you go outside and not just when u go swimming.

My family has a Springer Spaniel who chews his front and back legs. Any suggestions to make him stop?

He has allergies, but we've tried everything from hydrocortisone spray to Sulfodene to No-Chew Spray with Bitrex (a bittering agent) to try to make him stop. However, he just sits there and just licks and chews until his skin is raw or bloody. We spray him with anti-bacterial spray to help the skin heal. Any suggestions on how to make him stop chewing?

My family has a Springer Spaniel who chews his front and back legs. Any suggestions to make him stop?
have you had him to the vet? sometimes benadryl can help ease the discomfort for the dog, but can make them drowsy. make sure you get a dose from your vet and not from someone on here. if nothing is working you might want to look into having him allergy tested to find out what is causing the allergy. if it is food or something you can do something about like removing the object he is allergic to that will help. also you can get him allergy shots that will help ease his itching during his allergy season. until you find out what is causing the allergy he will continue to chew. don't go changing his food around without knowing for sure it's the food, all you will accomplish is stomach upset. leg wraps will only give him something else to chew through before he gets to his legs and can cause more issues with his tender skin. the only thing you can do to stop him would be to place a e-collar on him, which for long term use would be miserable not only for the dog but for you and your legs. good luck.
Reply:well try bitter apple or wrapping his paws so he cant get to them.
Reply:Youve probably already done this but change his diet or walk him somewhere else
Reply:This could be nervous behavior. A 30-60 minute walk every day could help. Also, give him something to chew on that won't hurt him. Chew toys, nylabones, real bones(the ones that okay, like a raw beef leg bone not little ones) and make sure they are available.

benedryl is what we have always given our dogs for most allergies. The only way to get them to stop chewing is to put something on there that tastes so bad he won't do it. I've used vinegar based pepper sauce. I put some on an open wound on myself before I put it on the dog to make sure it wouldn't hurt. it didn't, but the dog didn't hated the taste enough that she stopped chewing her feet.
Reply:you should train him to stop. say no or lightly spank him on his butt if he does it. let him know that you're angry. dogs can sense that furious tone in your voice. try asking your local vet if this doesnt work out for you
Reply:My dachsund does the same thing, she is allergic to grass. We give her half a benedryl each day and always wipe her feet with a baby wipe when she comes in from outside. She is also allergic to food proteins. If they aren't small enough they giver her a reaction. SO, we have to feed her a special dog food that is prescribed by the vet. I would consider talking to the vet about some of this, it isn't that common for dogs to be allergic to food but it does happen. Good luck!

Oh yeah and when we see her licking and biting we tell her to stop, you can't watch them all the time but it is easy to tell them NO! when you see them doing it.
Reply:I wouldn't suggest putting any kind of spray like Bitter Apple on because those may irritate the skin more :( Ask the vet if they have any easy remedies. Sometimes a cold relaxing back can sooth itchy burning skin :)
Reply:put tobasco sauce or other spicy food he won't like on the limbs. He will associate the chewing (action) with the horrible taste (punishment) and then eventually stop it.

If I'm allergic to cats and dogs, will I be allergic to a parrot?

Hello, guys, I'm going to get a skin test in a couple of weeks, but I'm just curious if there's a possibility that I might have an allergy for a bird? Or it's not relevant? Who has allergies to dogs and cats, but not to the birds? THANKS:-)

If I'm allergic to cats and dogs, will I be allergic to a parrot?
Parrots have a different type of "dander" than cats %26amp; dogs. Parrots give off a white colored powdered waxy dander that some people are allergic to, but it's a totally different type of material.

It is very possible to be allergic to cats %26amp; dogs, but not parrots.
Reply:probably not bc you arnt allergic to the animal..its their dander
Reply:no parrots have feathers not fur
Reply:I'm BADLY allergic to cats, but not to my birds. That's not to say you can't develop an allergy. Their dander is what you're allergic to. If in doubt, find a good allergist and get tested.
Reply:I'm allergic to cats %26amp; dogs, I had a Mitred Conure and he did not bother me... he did have dander all though...when you get your test done see if your allergic to feathers... that's how I found out I was...didn't get rid of the bird but the pillows and feather bed had to go!
Reply:I've owned and lived with dogs, cats, and birds. I've gotten used to my dogs' dander. Have a more severe allergy to cats (or the outdoor stuff they carry in on their fur, I'm not sure), but the waxy powder from bird feathers will almost stop me breathing. I had to find another home for a much beloved bare-eyed ******** because of the severity of my reaction.

It might be best to be tested specifically for a reaction to bird dander before you bring a bird home. Parrots are very intelligent creatures and suffer a great deal of loss and grief if they are separated from owners they've gotten used to. My ******** continued calling for me and looking for me for nearly a year after she was in her new home. I don't think she ever bonded with her new owners.
Reply:I do not know, i would ask your allergist when you see him/her. they can tell by doing a skin test.

Post tonsillitis?

I've just recovered from tonsillitis around two wks ago. I had to go to the hospital and get those iv drips with two doses of antibiotics and one steroid and some saline solution as well.

My problem is, ever since I went to the hospital and finished the courses of antibiotics, my skin is really dehydrated. However, I have been drinking a lot of water, especially when I was sick. Now two wks later, my skin on my face is so dehydrated that its all patchy and red and looks like I have allergies.

Also, I am constantly tired even after a good night sleep. I usually get tired around 3-5pm, but I cant take a nap because if I do, I cannot sleep at night.

Does anyone know why I'm so dehydrated and tired even though I've fully recovered? I'm taking vitamin B since the doc recommended it because all those medicines made my liver function slightly more.

Post tonsillitis?
the dehydration could have a little to do with recent weather changes that just happened to be around the time of your sickness and treatments. eat plenty of healthy fats and plenty of fruits and veggies. if you feel you are suffering from any type of yeast infection due to the anitbiotics, eat some yogurt or take acidophilus tablets. find a moisturizer that will not irritate your skin and try to stay well hydrated. i hope you get better. you should probably go in for a recheck soon anyway.
Reply:dont know how old you are to help

I looking for a horse to buy, but it needs to be tough, econonical, and 13 to14hh. What breed should I get?

It can't be tall (Yeah! - I'm short.), but it still needs to keep up with my brother's quarter horses in the heat, working for a living (just like me). Also, it needs to be perfectly solid colored, because the sun here causes problems on horses with any white on them (appys, paints, ect..) Even sorrels get skin cancer and die young here.

I have had 15 BLMs(4 were really good horses, and 1 was even some-what sane after 12 long, careful years of training), 3 Arabians(all were what you call "spirited"-LOL, and all had genetically bad teeth, health %26amp; allergies), 2 "Quarter Ponies"(bad health %26amp; lameness), 1 Quarter/Welsh cross( terrible health, allergies %26amp; lameness), and 1 Icelandic (loved him, but he couldn't take the climate). Please - all those can be wonderful - but they were NOT for me.

Someone sugested a buckskin South American Corrillo (spelling?), but those are very rare. Is there any other breed already in the US that you know of that could be a good friend, and working partner?

I looking for a horse to buy, but it needs to be tough, econonical, and 13 to14hh. What breed should I get?
Don't look at the breed. Look at the horse. BLMs usually do great- I have worked with one and know of 10 others- completely sane and dependable mounts.

Plus, if all of your horses get lameness issues, it is probably something you are doing.

What I suggest is getting a horse from a stable that raises their foals outside. We got 12 or so of our horses from some old lady up in MN- the mares and stallions were relatively tame, but the foals have never seen a person before. We would have to rope them to get them in the trailer and then tame them, but we have never had any healthy problems and they were very sure footed, and ended up practically bombproof. The breeds were drafts crosses and reg. QH and Paints.

I would just suggest getting a shorter QH- we were looking for a QH, and most that we find are around 14h, when we needed at least a 15h.
Reply:ever looked at a Dodge
Reply:You sure are a picky varmint. If you have had that much trouble with that many breeds of horses, I would tend to look at something other than the horse breed as being the problem. I have had horses my entire life and never had the kinds of problems you are talking about with any of them.
Reply:How about a Haflinger or Haflinger cross? They are like miniature Belgians, steady and gentle, and very strong.
Reply:where the hell do you live?
Reply:sounds like you need a better vet. quarters are know for hardyness, i have a friendly girl myself. she's sweet but she works hard. if you've gone through that many horses maybe you need to move to city and work behind a desk.
Reply:Who are you buying your horses from??????

Does the vet check your horses? Quarter Horse in my opinion is the best horse for work and there are some that are short. ITake care of it
Reply:You need to get a 4 wheeler. It is short, works hard, can keep up with your brothers horses in the heat, is easier to maintain and will not have all of the health issues you have described. Good Luck.
Reply:Haflinger or Fjord.
Reply:The sun can't cause that much problem--Texas is know for cowboys and sun and heat and their horses don't drop like flies. A sorrels skin is black same as a bay or black and it can't just be the color of the hair that causes the "cancer". A lot of white esp. on the face can burn and blister but I think the rest is bull. POA's are smaller and if your so bent on no color some are just a roan or almost solid. Mustang crosses can be small tooand are tough little buggers-I have 2 right now and both can keep up with my Arab but not for distance--more like a quarter horse.
Reply:All of the breeds you mentioned as owning are proven good breeds. If you are having problems getting them to "last", perhaps it's not the breed but how hard you are riding them, and how well you are taking care of them. Not trying to flame you, but if what you report is correct then your luck with horses is non-existent. ATV's may be best your bet. They never colic, they are short so easy for you to mount, economical and relatively cheap to feed.
Reply:go look at dreamhorse.com horsetopia.com equine.com equinhits.com equine now.com net equine.com I would go with a quater horse or arabian quater cross they are so sweet
Reply:Mustangs! They are loyal, hardworking, versatile, smart, easy to take care of, live in all kinds of weather, and you can find them in just about any color you want. I have a little mustang gelding from Nevada and he's really sweet and calm. He was trained on the ground (no riding), but he is still the sweetest and most bombproof horse we have. Also, they come in the size you want too.

An Allergist in Seoul?

I'm having these crazy allergies, and I'm putting it down to food mixed with Yellow Sand, but I want to see an Allergist in Seoul to run all tests possible so I can eliminate whatever is driving me insane. It's all very well to go to the Skin Doctor, but they just give me some cream, but it doesn't actually get down to what's causing the problems.

Has anybody heard of a good allergist?

Also has anyone been brave enough to try out the 'Allergy Fish' at the JJimJilBang?... They are fish that supposedly eat your atopy.

I've kept your question in my personal watchlist for days now, whilst trying to find an answer. None of my colleagues know of any allergist in Seoul. I have been to the SDA Hospital and the Kyunghee Hospital in Hoegi-dong recently to get treatment for my daughter (she gets UV treatment for vitiligo), but the doctors I asked didn't offer any good advice on finding someone like that. Or maybe they just didn't understand what I was looking for. You know how it is.

I also suffer from allergies and most of them I can cure with regular medicine, but I got a nasty skin reaction last week. The dermatologist said that it was nothing serious, but that it was the cause of scrubbing too much when taking a bath. He said that because of the dry weather in the winter and other seasonal changes, I should refrain from scrubbing. He gave me some ointment and it took the rash away. And I stopped scrubbing. This helped more than the ointment, I think! He was right after all.

I haven't tried any of the things you mentioned. Something that eats ones atopy! I wouldn't even try that! I don't even know what my atopy is!

Anyways, if you wanna see a good dermatologist in Seoul, I suggest the ones at Kyunghee Hospital. There is a couple of them, but they are all world class. And if you don't wanna spend a lot of money, there's one near Hoegi Station. It's right next to the wedding hall. There is a dentist and a pediatrician in the same building.

Good Luck!

My Chihuahua's Nose Is Peeling On The Edges?

I noticed two little spots on my 1 1/2 year old Chi's nose today. I ran my finger across it and the little piece that was between it also came off like dry skin. It's peeling on the top of her snout where her nose meets her fur. It's light light pink underneath. We live in San Antonio, Texas so it's not too hot or cold right now and even when it is she's always inside. She's sat with me once or twice when I had a cigeratte on my balcony last week. I don't smoke except once or twice a month. She doesn't stay out in the sun, has a normal healthy diet. I haven't bathed her in about a month but even when I do bathe her, I don't scrub around her snout. I also have another Chi who is 13 and has bad allergies. Could my little Chi's nose be a sign of the beginnings of allergies? We do have some mold outside from the leaves falling and then being rained on a few months ago. Help?

-Not sunburnt

-Not frostbite

-Extremely rare to non-existent exposure to smoke

-Bathed once a month or so

My Chihuahua's Nose Is Peeling On The Edges?
Aww. Well if it doesn't seem to be bothering her that's a good thing. She's young and she could just be developing allergies. Keep an eye on it as any abrasion could possibly get infected, but otherwise leave it be unless it appears to get worse.

I bet your Chi's LOVE San Antonio--they do adore that warm weather!

My dog is 13 Lab/Chow and is going bald but no shedding?

Our black male 13 yr old Lab/Chow is going bald but no shedding. When Groucho was younger we fought allergies, hot spots and some pretty mega shedding sometimes in clumps. This week we saw that he has huge bigger than my hand size bald places. I brush him and not much hair, mostly a little undercoat comes out. The hair is no where around and he's not chewing as usual. His poor back hips grow more stiff every day. He's never out of my site and eats Naturals Pet store dog food and has all his life. He only gets Milk Bones for large dogs once a day when we come in from outside. There is no redness and no wet hair. It isn't allergies as usual, there is no hair shedding. He has about four of these all over his body. Totally bald with no rashes, the skin looks normal and smooth. What is your advice

My dog is 13 Lab/Chow and is going bald but no shedding?
When my dog got to be about 15 yrs. old, she had similar troubles. We started shaving her. I think the body had so much other stuff going on that it stopped regrowing the hair. She enjoyed being cooler with the shave.
Reply:Take your dog to the vet

Good Luck
Reply:your pet is nearing the end... you should ask the vet if you are that concerned.. but as long as no irritation, scratching, oozing etc. i would not worry about it
Reply:My advice is to take him to the vet to diagnose this. It's possible he has alopecia, possible hypothyroidism, or some other hormone-related problem, or it could be something totally different. He needs to see a vet anyway for some help with his hips. There's no need for him to be in pain when your vet can prescribe meds for this poor old guy.
Reply:It could be a thyroid problem. I've seen it in dogs before.

Take it to the vet and check the thyroid function.
Reply:Ask the vet to run a thyroid blood panel it might even explain alot of the skin problems/allergies your dog had, hypothyroidism is a common problem in labs

Treatment is thyroid supplements given twice a day, and not expensive but dog would have to remain on for the rest of their life, if this is what is it, you dog will even become perkier and less tired, other sign of is lameness as it affects neurological function

Strange problem with extremely dry skin. What do I do?

Since I can remember, I've always had dry skin, but it seems to be getting worse. In the first stage, the skin on my face gets shiny and dry, feeling "tight." Then it splits and starts to flake away in large patches (sometimes dime-sized, but often smaller). When I pick at these, I get little scabs sometimes.

It's a really embarrassing problem and it makes me not want to be seen. I'm rarely unaffected by it. A dermatologist once told me I had atopic dermatitis, but he also said it might be mild excema. Even he seemed a little stumped by the problem and couldn't help me.

I've tried samples of Elidel, a cream that treats excema, but all it really seems to do is keep the flakes in larger patches before they fall off. It doesn't keep my skin healthier.

I also have asthma and allergies. I'm told excema goes along with these other two. The skin thing is what's bothering me the worst. I'm tired of my skin falling off. I use lotion several times a day and it's embarrassing. What do I do?

Strange problem with extremely dry skin. What do I do?
I have a similar prob. Here are some tips I follow to keep it to a minimum.

1. Don't eat or drink dairy- If it is execema it will flair up big time and also Dairy aggrevates allergies.

2. Drink Plenty of water

3. Don't use any soaps with purfume or scents and for moisturizing use natural ingredients like pure shea butter or Olive Oil (Like the kind you buy in the grocery store).

Hope this helps
Reply:Do you exfoliate? you should try a scrub that has some pumice or other exfoliants in it, that when when you wash your face, the dry dead skin is sloghed off. When you are done washing try using a cream that is light and made for the face, but has no fragrences or colors. I hope this helps. ps I use st ives apricot scrub, and lubriderm lotion. works well for me .

Skin is dry and flaky, coat is also dry...?

my best bud has seems to be having trouble with his skin. he's getting older (8) but has always been active and well fed. he is healthy (we've been to our vet just a couple of weeks ago), always been fed human-grade food, receives tons of attention (but not spoiled), and we generally do our research when a problem does arise.

That said, this is the first time i've asked a question, and I'm just wondering if there is something simple that i can add to his food to help his dry skin ( olive oil, sardines...etc). maybe there is something we had not thought of before...

note: his fur is shiny, it seems to be mainly his skin...no fleas, no current meds, no allergies that we are aware of.

it could just be the dry summer air...

Skin is dry and flaky, coat is also dry...?
My dogs have this problem sometimes in the summertime. I have found that the best and cheapest home remedy is already in your kitchen. For a small dog I take 1 egg and mix with about 4 tablespoons of oil (any works, mine like the grease off of hamburgers or bacon) then I mix that with their dog food or just let them lap it out of the bowl. Increase amounts for size of dog, but don't give them more than about 1/2 cup of the oil/grease because it could make them puke.

I have had many dogs and helped my mother who rescues strays, gets them healthy then finds them homes. This recipe has always worked with them. Give it a try!
Reply:could just be dry skin, ask your vet.. our vet recommended fish oil capsules for our dog when she was having dry itchy skin problems. make sure you contact your vet to find out exactly which kind to buy!!
Reply:I think that olive oil helps -- my dog loves it when I add it to her food.
Reply:I am not sure!!! :) -Ash
Reply:You can also try an Oatmeal or Milk and Honey bath that will sooth and moisturize his skin.
Reply:Get a good ointment or shampoo
Reply:Hi,

I had the same problem with my dog. I found out that I was bathing him to much. I hope this helps!!!
Reply:Olive oil works well for this. I would avoid eggs, they are a common allergen for dogs.

Also, go to www.valleyvet.com and get some Hylyt or Lytar shampoo. Hylyt is soapless, non allergenic, and great for this type of thing. Lytar is a coal tar shampoo (medicated), does not smell the best, but will give you great results. The vet typically sells these for $20-30/bottle. Valleyvet has them for about $7.50.
Reply:well umm try keeping the fish oils..

and using oatmeal shampoo and conditioner. Also you may need to up on a really higher food like Eukanuba (trust me it works)

Otherwise get a second opinion from a dif. vet. There are crap vets in the world.....and maybe its simply sumthing your vet overlooked

Two allergies is that common?

for years i had very bad acne it was because i had a yeast allergy when i stopped eating it my skin cleared up i recently went to a nutritionist because i was tired and feeling out of it all the time she told me to stop eating wheat which transformed me altogether feel so much better but that means im allergic to two things wheat and yeast one gives me bad skin and the other makes me tired can this really happen two allergies?does any one know any info on this and where to get information everything is either yeast free or wheat free nothing is both its driving me mad........

Two allergies is that common?
Yes it's definetely possible to have two allergies, lol. I lost count of how many I have because it's virtually everything at this point. Only things that don't trigger it are low sugar vegetables and specific gluten free grains like quinoa and millet.

As for yeast free and wheat free grains there is: Brown Rice, Quinoa, Amaranth, Millet, Steel cut oats, Sourdough.

Processed breads will tend to have yeast included. To avoid yeast you will need to eat more pastas and unprocessed versions of most of the above grains.

Look for the health food section of your local grocery store and look for breads you can consume in the freezer. The yeast free ones tend to be pretty solid though like bricks.

Now there are wheat free breads that contain gluten so you need to make sure it isn't gluten that you're sensitive to otherwise that opens it up further to kamut and spelt.

Overall I'd say you're suffering from a chronic deep rooted candida infection. I know for myself I still can't touch many foods but when I'm actively doing a candida program I feel WAAAAY better and I can actually mildly tolerate foods I normally can't.

The reason I believe this is your problem is because you are sensitive to both yeast and wheat. Candida is basically where your yeast in your body converts and forms bad bacteria which builds up and causes excessive allergies etc. Many people with wheat sensitivity tend to have candida as an underlying cause. On the flip side though once you do a candida cleanse effectively the allergies don't always go away fully unfortunately.
Reply:its not common, but not nessissarily uncommon. Plus the two go together quite often anyway.
Reply:Not uncommon at all. Wheat free info is fairly easy to get, because there is a disease called Celiac disease in which people cannot tolerate gluten (which is in wheat). Check out the celiac's website and you will find loads of info.
Reply:Some people are 'atopic' - they are prone to developing allergies.

Ask the nutritionist for more information about avoiding both foods. Health food shops tend to be very good at supplying such stuff. And I bet on-line there are lots of places to search. Although it can be a real problem doing the research at first once you have got information you will begin to uderstand which foods are more likely to contain your banned substances.

Does potato cause allergy i m feeling skin reaction & swoollen cheaks after having it?

from last three days i m feeling that i hav got swoolen cheeks and i have put on weight slightly even feeling itching on my cheeks i have eaten potatoes , cabbege , tea , milk in the morning instead of breakfast and drinking 6 to 7 glass of water in a day .

Does potato cause allergy i m feeling skin reaction %26amp; swoollen cheaks after having it?
Food allergies are very common. See your physician. A good over the counter remedy for allergies is Benadryl 25mg. This helps with the itching and swelling. If your problem is getting worse you really should seek the advice of a physician. It could lead to swallowing or even breathing problems. Of course I would suggest stop eating potatoes and cabbage for a while. Good luck.
Reply:i dont think potatoes cause allergies but its wise to see a doc

What effective cosmetic product can I use to get rid of blotches and dark spots in skin?

My allergy reaction left my skin blotchy after the wounds healed. Now I'm very shy exposing my thighs. Any "easy to buy" product that peels off skin? Walgreen? Rite Aid? CVS?

How can you stop a cat from gnawing & licking its underarms? it makes its skin infection worse. any remedies?

my cat, mocing, had food allergy. then she developed skin infection in its underarms which started about 7 months ago. we consulted 3 veterenarians already. the latest prescribed an anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal %26amp; anti-bac all-in-one cream (imflammol). although the skin problem is improving (there are fine hairs growing already) it never gets totally cured cause she keeps on gnawing and licking the wound evrytime her collar is removed which results to bleeding. the skin lesion is reddish. and wet sometimes. i dont know if it is itchy thats why my cat keeps licking the wound. is there any remedy to stop her from doing that? i really dont know what to do anymore. i just want my cat to live a normal life--without a collar. pls help.. thanks...

Need to use the collar until it's completely healed - sorry I know you didn't want to hear that. But once it's completely heaked it'll be right, by removing it too soon you're just perpetuating the problem.

Well her wounds would heal eventually even with her licking it constantly. Shes taking care of the wounds herself that way. Cats in the wild heal their own wounds. Maybe try putting some vinegar on the fur around the area since she won't like the taste. You might just have to break down and put a collar on her though.

the suggestion about food is a good one. also, many cats are sensitive to corn, and corn products are used in most cat foods.

EVOO makes a dry food that is freeze dried raw food.

high quality canned food is good; no more grocery store pet food.

if the allergy is not food, then it is more serious. my friend has a cat like this. she washes the wounds a couple times/day with a very gentle soap and water. If you can, find a holistic vet, because most creams and meds don't work.
Reply:ho.....my cat too had this problem ...liking around its wound but the wound had cured very soon .but i think i can't help in your case ..sorry!
Reply:ask to your Dr to get an oil which is not tasty for the cats and put it in her wounds..it will never lick...

since you are using mycostatin as the medicine if you use that oil it wouldnot make any problem to your cat..it will be cured soon...
Reply:The best way to prevent this is to keep her collar on her and when it's necessary to remove the collar for a moment, keep a close eye on her and prevent her from licking and gnawing her underarms, where gloves just in case she bites or scratches. It is really difficult to keep her from doing this because it is instinct for cats to lick their wounds coz' their saliva helps in mending the wound. Well, that's all I can give, never give up on your beloved cat!
Reply:Hi

I don't have an answer to your main question but what have you done about the underlying problem? Your best bet is canned foods no gravy that do not contain gluten. Some of the fancy feasts don't as well as some of the better brands like wellness canned

i don't think so.

buy IVERMECTIN from the petshop.

inject 0.3mL subcutaneously into your cat. that is a case of mange. IVERMECTIN is the generic name for the treatment of mange. it is done once every three months for dogs and cats. for dogs, the dosage is 0.5mL also administered subcutaneously.
Reply:you'll have to get her a cone to wear around her head, she'll hate it but sooner than later you will be able to take it off because the rash will heal, you can get them from the vet and the pet store, 10-25 dollars or so
Reply:Ask the doc to give your kitty a cortizone shot. This has always cleared up my cat's skin issues. And keep in mind that most vets don't know what they are doing.
Reply:hmmm...I thought ivermectin was an oral de-worming paste??

I know it sounds cheezy, but you could try calling all pets on NPR.

When my dog had stitches, and could not wear a collar (because of stitches on her neck) we put a t-shirt on her. Not sure how your cat would handle that ( and you would need an infant T).

The other suggestion is bitter apple or aloe juice. They hate the taste of it. However, I am not sure how it would interact with the prescribed topical. Didn't the vet have any suggestions? other than a collar?

My cat has been scratching himself raw and I was wondering if he might have dry skin or maybe and allergy?

He is a mostly black cat with some white, so you cant really see that he is getting raw but when you pet him he has scabs where he has dug, i have seen no fleas on him. but on the first of December he went to the vet and got fixed, but he never showed any signs before he went (that was his first vet visit) i am curious to know weather it may have been due to the flea treat ment they gave him or the soap they used when they bathed him? they also did an aids/lukemia test. if any one knows anything i appreciate it thankx Gracy

call the vet %26amp; let them know , it sounds like an allergy to me
Reply:Have you tried putting some bacertracin (sp) on him? That may help.
Reply:why have you not gone back to the vet? What ever you do DO NOT use a flea coller. They are useless. All they do is stop the fleas from reaching your pets head. And the eat away at their skin

VET. Plain and simple
Reply:If he's allergic to fleas, a single flea bite could make him itch like that. Some shampoos can do that, especially if it wasn't rinsed well. Frontline is pretty unlikely to cause that, but anything is possible. If they did an old-fashioned flea dip, that could DEFINITELY do that-flea dips are very harsh and drying to the skin. It seems a bit strange to me that they would bathe and fix him on the same day, because if you do the bath after, then the surgery site gets wet, and if you do it before, then you have a wet animal under anesthesia and a high risk of hypothermia. Might be worth taking him back to this vet, or to another vet for a second opinion.
Reply:Does it has pimples like thingies on the body? Did the pimples like thingies turn into scabs?

If so, it's probably allegric to food, environment or shampoo.

Did you just change its diet? Or change floor degerent? And does it have any danduff?
Reply:You should probably contact the vet and ask to come in or ask him what's wrong.
Reply:it sounds most likely to be 'flea allergic dermatitis' which just means allergic to fleas. one single bite from a flea can cause a reaction. they are allergic to the fleas saliva.

most common signs are scratching, balding around the tail and lower back. the scabs form due to the cat scratching and biting. even though you have not seen any fleas it still could be the problem as only one flea bite is needed. this reaction to flea saliva is becoming more and more common and just means that a good veterinary licensed, flea control product will need to be used during the course of the animals life.

this reaction is unlikely to be due to the flea control product placed on the animal nor the blood test for the felv/fiv test.

its worth taking the animal back for a check up and a different product may be needed. the vet can also check if any bathing, scrub solution was the cause.

sometimes a change in environment, household or other stress can cause the animal to self harm.

Reply:Yeah, call the vet and ask what they used on him. Explain his symptoms. It may be an allergy to the flea treatment. Have you changed his food? Has anything changed in his life? Even things like a new cat in the neighborhood, (cat that comes around and looks in his window, or does your cat go out?) can cause a reaction thru the skin. Cats can be complicated. There are vets who specialize in the treatment of allergy.

I'd call or just take him back in. Poor Kitty.
Reply:Most common causes:

1) Allergy - to carpet powder, food, fleas, shampoo. Try changing one or all of these and see what works.

2) Try a liquid rub-on flea preventative instead of a collar. I never found a flea collar to work on dog or cat.

3) If nothing works, take to a vet and have skin tested for specific allergy. We had a dog once that was allergic to a specific kind of mold and tree.

Is grapeseed oil extract causes skin allergy?

i recently taking grapeseed oil extract as my food supplement but after 2 days, skin allergy occurs. what are the side effects of taking grapeseed oil extract?

Is grapeseed oil extract causes skin allergy?
Anything can cause an allergy if you are allergic to it. Since you just recently started taking this extract and just noticed the allergy I would have to suspect the extract. If you've also started something else recently then it could be that as well, but with the current information provided I'd have to suspect the extract.

Remember that natural products like that are not regulated by the FDA and can therefore have varying purity standards. This extract may contain all sorts of impurities that aren't listed, you aren't aware of, and may be down-right dangerous. If you insist on using natural products at least make sure they are from a reputable source/manufacturer preferably approved by the USP or Consumer Labs.

My dogs seem to have skin allergy.Vets said its their food,i've changed many times.Anybody know e cure?

one of my dogs is a maltese, the other is a schnauzer. They didn't have this problem when they were puppies.Seem to have surfaced when they hit adulthood....Their condition looks like what a human skin allergy---eczema. Medicine and change in diet don't seem to work very well.

My dogs seem to have skin allergy.Vets said its their food,i've changed many times.Anybody know e cure?
you have been changing from one crappy food to another (regardless of how much the food costs, it's all crap)

i used to have the same problem with my dogs but only a mild case. however they also had horrible breath, horrible gas and shed like crazy.

i bought a book http://www.amazon.com/Work-Wonders-Feed-...

and i switched my boys immediately per the instructions in the book and within a week they had no gas, their teeth were clean and white, no smelly breath and they shed much less now. and my overweight dog has lost weight and is healthy.

the principle of the book is to feed your dog raw meaty bones, just like they would have if they were wild dogs (or wolves) and have a few fruits and veggies mixed in. the book is wonderful and i suggest it for anyone who wants their dog to be their absolute healthiest.
Reply:Try feeding Fish and Chips or Lamb Millet Rice formulas from Flint River. These are free of wheat, corn, chicken, by products, animal digest, dyes, sugars, and artificial preservatives that are often the cause of food sensitivities and allergies.

Both of these formulas are made to be non allergic, and are made with human grade ingredients, so more is digested, they eat less and there is less waste.

Good luck!
Reply:Our German Shepard cross develops bald spots on either side of her (rib area) each spring because of seasonal allergies. We give her omega-3 capsules 2x a day during April/May, and the spots always clear up by the time we're done with the second bottle of pills (and her coat gets soooo sleek and shiny!). There are lots of brands that are specifically for pets (I just did a quick Google and came up with several, but I didn't see our brand...can't remember the name). It might be worth a shot. Good luck!
Reply:Get a food that does not have corn in it or use corn fillers
Reply:What kind of bowl are you feeding them from? Sometimes it can be as simple as using a plastic bowl...they seem to be sensitive to whatever is in plastic. Switch to glass or ceramic if you don't already use them.
Reply:That's kinda strange that both dogs have the same condition. What kinda food are you feeding them. They could be allergic to wheat, or corn.

I would try feeding them INNOVA EVO. It's 95 % meat. No wheat or corn. You can go online and see where you can buy it in your area. Innova also sells treats. I would try that first. Because its both dogs, I would say it's something in their envirement. Their food, treats, or something outside.
Reply:My westie has a skin problem as- well. This is cause by heat or the skin being very dry. first of all minumize the amount of times the dogs are bathed. That just causes irritation. Also be careful on the amount of anti-biotics they are exposed to. It can cause bad side effects, i know of one westie that went deaf.

If the diet isnt helping, put them on a natural diet. Basiclly humane food. Read up on natural dog diets before you do.

This tends to help bad skin problems. Always make sure they are not over exposed to any heat.

And i would also recommend going to a diffrent vet and getting a second opinion.

Good Luck!
Reply:I would recommend a VERY simple diet - essentially boiled (or broiled) chicken and rice. In fact, this could be a good diet for you as well! LOL! Rice is easy to digest and has some vitamins and the chicken adds protein, but not at high levels (like steak).

As they are small dogs, you can prepare some chicken and rice once or twice a week and refrigerate the rest, serving a bit for each meal (you can warm it if you choose, but chicken tends to microwave poorly).

An alternative is chicken and rice dry food. Talk to your vet about a high quality food. Stores often carry lower costs and lower quality foods, which could cause them problems. I give chicken and rice dry puppy food to my two 11-month old pups and so far so good. The dry food also helps their teeth (scrapes away bacteria).

You could also add or substitute cottage cheese into their diet. This is another item with essential proteins, but not a high-protein diet. For both the chicken %26amp; rice and cottage cheese diets, you may need to add some fruit or vegetables to ensure that they get all essential nutrients (vitamins and minerals).

Lastly, you may try just a bit of oil to their diets - just a spoonful over their dry chicken and rice dog food. Be careful with this as too much oil can cause them to gain weight (as oil is fat). But the extra oil may help their skin and coat, which may be very dry.

Also, take a good look around your home. Are there carpets, furniture or deoderants that you use on either that could cause them problems? How about plants outside? Any chance they are rubbing up against some plants that could cause an allergic reaction? You may need to wash your carpets, steam clean your furniture and even remove some plants. Additionally, have they been on long-term antibiotics or do you bathe them frequently? Both will cause problems, so please cut back if possible (if they are on antibiotics, talk to your vet about why and if they can stop - get a second opinion if necessary).

Good luck!
Reply:I use Show Stopper supplement and my dogs are doing great on it, their skin %26amp; coat are beautiful and no problems! You can get it on line, just Google it for the best price. All the best;^)
Reply:this might sound silly but my dog was having a really bad problem like that and it was the cat. my dog was allergic to the cat so if you have a cat keep that in mind. silly isn't it
Reply:First, make sure the food doesn't have any grains in it. That's usually the number one cause of allergies in dogs.

Second, give the dogs time to get used to the food. It may take some time before their allergies will clear up. You can't expect them to clear up overnight.

Consider adding n'zymes to their daily regimen:

http://nzymes.com/

Look into a holistic food such as Eagle Pack:

http://eaglepack.com/

Or consider a simple diet of boiled chicken and/or fish with rice and/or potatoes.

Add some fish oil to their diet.

Try giving them a medicated bath, like an oatmeal bath, regularly.

Good Luck!

Medicated shampoo I get from the vet. keeps it under control. Check the plants in your yard and where you are walking them. Dust mites can be a problem for dogs. Of coarse they are not having a flea problem, right? You can go to the vet. and spend around $250 to have allergy tests run.

I hope you can figure it out for your dogs.

What kind of allergy is it when your skin is galding?
I used to have such skin problems too. After using the Olive Manon products from Japan, my skin condition is in very much better condition now.

Email to following website for their recommendation. The staff is very prompt and helpful too.
Reply:More of an irritation than an allergy!powder, loose clothing!!
Reply:What else can I do?

See an allergist!!! Let them TEST you to find out! Your have a terrible reaction and you need to carry a Pen with you go give yourself injections so you don't get these reactions. Your doctor can give you an injection to "dry up" some poison ivy/oak's and you get through your reactions to them in over 1/2 the time, it really helps! Good luck!

Also, you said Poison Ivy, how about Poison Oak?

Be careful you don't get anaphylactic shock.
Reply:You could have a yeast rash. Try Tinactin cream and keep gauze tucked into the groin area. Keeping dry is important. Bottom line though is check with a dermatologist if you can.

Does anyone really do the skin allergy test when dyeing their hair?

it says to perform a skin allergy test and u have to wait 48 hrs. to make sure ur not allergic. i doubt i'm allergic to it, and i don't want to wait. i also don't thing that most people pay any attention to the allergy test.

Does anyone really do the skin allergy test when dyeing their hair?
most people don't. The manufacturer's are required by law to write that though to avoid lawsuits in the rare event that someone is allergic.
Reply:I have personally never dyed my hair, but my friend did and she got a rash on her neck. you definitely should in my opinion
Reply:I don't perform the skin allergy test and I color my hair ALOT.

Just put some kind of hair protector oil or cream around the hairline...it helps.

You can also use vaseline since it wipes right off.

I hope you love your color!!!
Reply:I never have and I've dyed mine a few times. I'd say go for it, but if your skin burns or anything like that wash it out right away. Good luck!
Reply:I've never done it and it works just fine for me. As a matter of fact, I just dyed my hair friday without doing the test and nothing bad so far.
Reply:Ive only seen one person allergic to color, and unfortuantly she is a colorist, she she has to wear heavy duty gloves. Her skin falls off when she comes into contact with color. So if your worried, I'd do it, but the chances of actually being allergic are slim.
Reply:ive dyed my hair 50 times and i have never done the allergy test

its a waste of time
Reply:I have been coloring my hair for about 20 years and have never performed the skin allergy test and never had a problem. If you do not have sensitive skin, then you are probably fine.
Reply:most people ignore the allergy warning. i used to until i got too confident after dying frequently, and then my scalp turned bright red and became inflamed from the dye
Reply:If you've ever dyed your hair before without a reaction, you should be alright. I've never done the allergy test myself, and I've been dyeing my hair for well over 10 years without any reactions.
Reply:I wouldnt worry about it unless you have other allergies or have had reactions to products before.

i'm assuming since this is in alternative medicine that you are looking for alternatives to antibiotics and the like

try sandalwood essential oil

try a charcoal poultice

try virgin coconut oil

find out what is causing it and stop eating, drinking, smoking, laundering with it, or hanging around it

All the best!
Reply:You could soak in a "hot oatmeal sort of bath please check Pharmacy area in local stores...

It does take the itch out and I wish you the best of luck!
Reply:Ask your Dr. for a free sample of zythromax or any other type of antibiotic.
Reply:i have the worst hives and the only thing that has ever worked for me is the aveeno line of products they are all natural

it is oatmeal based they have bath treatments for the all over body relief and for in between or small spots there is aveeno anti-itch lotion

when i use the lotion i will spread it about 1" past the hive

walmart sells these and any pharmacy

they are on the pricey side but soooo worth it when the itching finally stops

in a pinch i will pour one cup of oatmeal in the tub with half cup of baking soda but be ready for a mess

but a good strainer will help after you get out of the tub don't let the water out and run the strainer back and forth to get the oatmeal out or it will plug up your drains

See if you can determine what caused the problem and stay away from it for starters. Hard to tell what to do for it - a rash could be allergy, or measles, or anything - blisters? could be poison oak, etc etc. Red, itchy, dry? might be allergy - maybe hydrocortisone cream over the counter would help. If not, see your doctor.

Cortaid for Skin Allergy for Pregnant Woman?

Wife's got allergy and itching sensation on her skin. Applied some Cortaid so feels better in those places. However has this feeling all over her body. Is there some other solution and also is Cortaid Cream application safe for Pregnant Woman?

Cortaid for Skin Allergy for Pregnant Woman?
She should see a dermatologist about this.

In response to whether it is safe for pregnant women, this site has a toll-free line where you can get specific info about certain medications and whether or not they are safe. When pregnant, if in doubt, DON'T!

Reply:This is basically an immune reaction, possibly allergy. All Allergies come from the same root cause.

A group of complex carbohydrates should normally be attached the proteins of every single cell in the human body.

The transfer of all biological data at cellular level depends upon all of those carbohydrates being in place.

Allergies are simply the result of the Immune System being compromised by the depletion of one or more of these carbohydrates. This is four times Nobel Prize winning science, with 350,000 scientific papers being written about it already.

Replacing these missing carbohydrates is quite straight forward, and completely repairs immune function.

No drugs, chemicals or other garbage - will probably enhance pregnancy.

Any remedies for over coming skin allergies?

I just used a similar answer in another question, but I have the most sensitive skin on the planet, and I SWEAR by virgin unhydrogenated coconut oil. I put it on my face every night before bed, and my face used to be red and irritated all the time, especially from detergents, makeup, or certain fabrics.. and now it is clear as day. Plus, don't be fooled that it is an oil, you can use it anywhere on your body and it won't make you break out, or dry out your skin. In fact, it is antibacterial by nature, so if you DO have a tendency to break out, it will actually improve the health of your skin and reduce break outs and overall irritation. Good luck!

Any remedies for over coming skin allergies?
Yes. Consult a good homeopath.
Reply:that is a very broad question... to accurately recommend something you need way more detail...ie: what is the allergy caused by? where it is? what srt of pain does it cause? what does it look like? when is it the worst? etc etc etc see your GP.
Reply:avoid steet and house dust
Reply:cover your skin as much as you can

use calamine lotion and

keep your skin lubricated all the time

My dog has really bad skin allergies. Can I give her something to help her sleep?

She's part golden retriever. And is a little smaller than a full grown retriever.

My dog has really bad skin allergies. Can I give her something to help her sleep?
My dog has skin allergies, and we put a Benedryl in his bowl of water. He will stop scratching for about 5-6 hours then it will start back up but not as bad. Talk with your dog vet first.
Reply:Look at earthclinic.com

You got it from there.
Reply:Ask your vet if Benadryl is okay to give her.

A friend had the same trouble and changed her dog's diet and the allergies went away. She cooked barley, brown rice and buckwheat in a large pot. When they were almost cooked, she added ground turkey. The dogs loved it and their coats grew in beautifully. Worth a try. Some dog food has stuff in it that dogs are allergic to.
Reply:www.topgoldenretrieversites.net Go here. They have a place where you can ask questions.
Reply:if i were you i would go to the vet with it. if you live in the bronx theres a vet on the grand concourse let them take care of the problem. peice out.
Reply:the allergies are probably from his food. get on a better quality food %26amp; add some omega 3 %26amp; 6 fatty acids like flaxseed oil to her diet. are you sure it isn't from fleas?
Reply:You can absolutely give your dog some benedryl or the generic equivalent diphenhidramine. Being a golden retriever she can have one tablet twice a day hope that helps.
Reply:The first thing is to try feeding your dog a more hypoallergic diet. There is sometimes a reaction to foods with a high wheat content cereal base to its dry mix. And also some dogs get itchy on beef based foods. Try finding a lamb meal or turkey meal based dog feed like California Natural or Purina One turkey. Then get a good oatmeal based shampoo in the pet store( the larger chains have a better selection with better prices). Use it as directed. Wash your dog's bedding (DONT USE FABRIC SOFTENER) use only the normal detergent and dont use so much that it wont rinse out cleanly, some people use alot more soap than normal because they're washing their dog's bed and cause a reaction when the suds dont rinse out well. Wipe down the dog house if your dog has one, it wont make any sense to do all this and then put the dog back into a contaminated dog house. As for sleeping, the reason I told you all of the above is so you'll treat the PROBLEM not just the SYMPTOMS. You can only use the sleep remedy so long before it causes other problems of its own. How would YOU feel if you were itchy all the time and no one gave you any relief except when you were asleep. I suffer from skin allergies my self and have been using Benadryl as well, call your vet and let him or her prescribe the right dosage so you dont fry your dog's liver or kidneys. Good luck dear.
Reply:I was going nuts trying to find some relief for my Tibetan Spaniel mix...lotions, ointments, oatmeal shampoo (helped), change of food... Then my Ma had me try rubbing corn starch into her fur a few times a day to soothe the itching. It worked on us when we had the chicken pox; and sure enough, it helped Curli a LOT. It wasn't the cure; she still needed Benedryl and a cortisone shot. But it made her feel so much better that, after the first time, whenever I brought the can out she'd line right up for her special rub!
Reply:i have a book about people medicine that is ok for dogs. both it and a vet told me once that childrens benydryl is ok for dogs if you go by the wait. i did use it and it worked for both the itch and the sleeping. also try a natural food diet. i m in total belief that dog food causes allergies. most vets will tell you before they go through allergy testing to use this diet. there are may recipes online that are easy and cheaper than most dog foof. just take a bit more time. but well worth it
Reply:Most likely it could be a food allergy. Try switching her to a lamb and rice formula or something that has no wheat or corn since those seem to be the most common food allergies.
Reply:You need to talk to the vet about this. This is something that the vet needs to handle.
Reply:solving this can be as easy as switching brands of food...I recommend Solid Gold or Canidae...check out their websites...they both work wonders...she shouldn't need any drugs or creams afterward switching her diet

advice and give me plz!!!

What medecine precisely can cure skin allergies! that almost my body have? can you....?
Talk with a dermatologist for the medicine.

But for the rest, try using an allergen/dye free laundry detergent. A lot of people have contact dermatitis, which means that run-of-the-mill laundry detergent is bad for them.

Now, you might try a hydrocortisone cream for temporary relief.

Good luck!

I think my dog has skin allergies or something wrong with his diet?

I have a 85 lb, 1 year old chocolate lab. he has been itching and licking himself constantly. he didnt used to have flees as bad before the itching and licking, but now he has quite a bit. his coat was perfect and the first thing i noticed was a sore, right above his tail at the bottom of his back. and it slowly went up. and im not sure if he even created the initial sore and what followed because hes been itching and licking so much when im not around i couldnt tell. we've been using different food over the past 3 months to see what he likes. he pretty much eats it all so its hard to tell what food would be the problem if the problem at all. im pretty sure its allergenic, even though the sores are on his back., he has inflicted scratches badly all over his body. and continues to lick and lick, sometimes he wines and continues. even though we try to stop him everytime, he is constantly still doing it....

I think my dog has skin allergies or something wrong with his diet?
My St. Bernard used to constantly bite her back end. She was hairless from midway down her back to the tip of her tail and she had sores and scabs all over. Our vet said it was allergies and we were getting ready to do allergy tests but we changed our dogs food and she did a complete turn around. She now has the fullest shiniest coat and no more scabs or sore. It sounds like you dog could have allergies to his food just like my Saint did. Now we were feeding Purina and switched to Nutro Natural Choice Lamb and Rice but there are other foods out there you could try. They ever have special allergy foods.
Reply:take your dog to the vet to get him checked out, and it's better if you decide what kind of food to give him, if he will eat it all, it won't matter to hi will it?
Reply:Go to the per store and pick up the medication for hot spots, put it on the sores. Also give him a bath, with Johnsons baby shampoo, doesn't dry the skin out like dog shampoos do. Gentle on the skin, prevents dryness and itchiness
Reply:if you are seeing trouble in the area above the base of the tail, this is almost always a flea allergy. They say that one flea bite, once a week on an animal with flea allergies could cause severe itching. So make sure your dog and environment is free of fleas. To control the itching an 85 lb dog can have up to 50 mg of benadryl without even causing drowsiness. (50mg would be 2 benadryl tabs) If you take care of any flea issue, try the benadryl, and this is not working, you may have a food or contact allergy. These may need to be treated with cortisone injections or tablets.. you will need to take him to the vet for an exam and prescription if it doesnt clear up. Good luck!
Reply:He could have flea dermatitis. Work hard to get the fleas cleared up. Make sure he has plenty of vits C%26amp;E in his diet. Put 1 fish oil capsule in his food on a daily basis, once the skin problems are under control you can cut back to 1 or 2 a week.

If you think it is a food allergy take a close look at what is in his food. Soy, wheat %26amp; corn are top allergins for dogs. Try switching to a food that has none of those.

Consider checking out some natural remedies for your dog.

Are Shitzu's prone to Skin Allergies??

My coworker has a 4 year old Shitzu that she adopted about 4 months ago. In the last month or so it seems like she has tried everything she can to have this poor dog stop scratching. The dog is consistantly scratching, I feel so bad for it. The only thing is she does not have alot of money to pay for medication. Any ideas? Please Help!

Are Shitzu's prone to Skin Allergies??
Yes, Shih Tzus do have problems with allergies. She could have allergies to her food, fleas, or even pollen. First, may sure she is on flea preventative. Second, check what you are feeding her. I use Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul and all of my dogs tolerate it well! If neither of those two things work, then you will have to take her to the vet. Good luck.
Reply:Any poorly bred dog (i.e. from a puppymill or backyard breeder) can have many issues, including skin conditions. The best bet is to see a vet to get a proper diagnosis.
Reply:I have a seven year old Shih Tzu. And yes he scratch alot, his is more like dry skin irritation. I usually use mineral oil on the affected areas.
Reply:Most dogs have some sort of issues with skin allergies. She might want to change the dogs food to BLUE dog food. Here is the link to read all about it.

http://www.bluebuff.com/

I had a problem with my Pekingese's skin and it took about a month on the new food and no more skin irritation. Also switch the shampoo on the dog. The have less soapy shampoo on the market and if this dog goes to a groomer, ask them to use a different shampoo.

Don't feed the dog table food either ...
Reply:sounds like a diet related allergy . have her put him on a holistic diet and feed holistic food . I definately would take the poor dog to the vet . I am the owner of a chihuahua that has food allergies and cant eat anything but holistic and he used to scratch so bad I thought he had fleas but did not . good luck .
Reply:Aside from possible skin allergies, the dog could also have dry skin. Using a moisturizer, or adding a bit of fish oil/olive oil to his food might help (like one spoonful a day of oil).
Reply:I have a Shih-tzu. She's 6 yrs old and she has food allergies. They can have anything from grass allergies to anykindathing allergies. In my case, my poor dog scratched a lot and still does a little but for the first year, it was BAD! She would scratch but also rub her face on the rug and squeal. Her face was so raw and bleeding. She was always getting infections. The vet I took her to all the time didn't seem to be helping her so I took her to a specialist in skin allergies. I don't have a lot of money either but I figured I could sacrifice for my bestest ever friend. Finally, I got a handle on it by keeping her away from ALL foods, even chewy things (rawhide etc) She could only have "ZD ULTRA" prescription dry dogfood by Hills. It costs me $20 for an 8 pound bag and after two months, she cleared right up. Then, I started giving her green veggies like Green beans, brussels sprouts, asparagus, peas and broccoli. All from the freezer. She begs for them. She only gets around 1/2 cup a day. You would never know at one time her face used to bleed everyday when she rubbed it on the rug. When people realized the demand for these bright and loyal dogs, they started breeding them heavily. That's where all these problems came from. I can't tell you how relieved I am that my dog is able to relax instead of scratching, squealing and whining.
